Finding new gameplay mechanics for Regulator City

More game development this week, taken straight from the developer’s TODO list and task management, here’s an overview of what has been fixed, changed, updated, improved or generally worked on in the Orangepixel Universe.

This week started with some tweaks to Ashworld, a new build submitted to Google Play, for entry into Google Play Pass, only changes needed were “back button has to allow player to exit the game” and “ripples” (which I personally find silly and don’t seem to make much sense in a local game where interaction is always emediate).. but added those changes, we’ll see if it passes for play pass! (subscription games on Google Play)

 

Added ventilation shafts to sneak from area to area. Level editor allows to set “group values” to these, connecting 2 vents to each other. Love to finally come up with adding features like this, and it’s the main reason I haven’t designed too many mission maps yet, because I now have to start incorporating this (and the fire) into actual cool level layouts !

In my quest to add more gameplay, we now also have lasers added to the environments and hacking-stations to operate them (and possibly future additions to the game). All these things also mean I have to dive back into level design and improve those designs with various new features!

BUGS

  • fixed: Typo in mission information for “Intel gathering” (“desks likes”)

Demo v0.0.54

  • added: “target zone” on floor underneath extraction chopper
  • changed: Idle by standers now duck and show hands (goal is to remedy confusion for players)
  • changed: Scenery is (much) easier to destroy
  • fixed: burn sports (ie: from Molotovs ) only create smoke, not fire
  • fixed: Pressing left/right on Inititiave (Squad setting) moves it up/down
  • improved light system for more clarity

  • added: Baseball bat can deflect bullets
  • added: Fire can block player
  • added: Fire Extinguisher (weapon/item)
  • added: Shields allow player to move through fire
  • changed: Extraction point will now be at “end of street”
  • changed: Increased size of most maps
  • fixed: Park area as 2nd area has wrong street (rooftop street combo)

Heroes Of Loot 3 – development change log January 25, 2024 :
BUGS

  • Boss key pushed outside of vertical room with wall spikes
  • Cap’n’bones energy bar is not correct (half full when he died)
  • Magic revival doesn’t move/shoot. Just exploded on spot
  • Quest should exclude aggressive flames ,or game should spawn them outside boss fight
  • Tiny muddy in Codex crashes game
  • Upgrading weapon near pedestal picks up the pedestal item by accident

TODO

  • Add stats: weapons+levels, kills, collected loot, collected items,
  • Arrow of Assassi ln rotation+duration should be level dependent
  • Energy balance for bosses+creatures need a bump up, too easy
  • Give a small invulnerability to creatures after being hit
  • Increase creature energy/speed with area -level
  • Mix in bigger enemies with creature-spawner in later levels for extra challenge
  • Shelly king hit-highlight should only happen if it’s fragments are all destroyed
  • Some active items need animation/effects (now most look to do the same)
